How ugly & dark is this granite?

This granite was splitting at the seems, was unevenly installed, was chipped, and so dark, it made the entire kitchen look horrible. We covered the counter with our white, light, flowing, soft marble design to tie in their real wood floors and soon to be finished cabinets. We also installed a new sink, faucet, and beautiful, classic white subway tile backsplash.
